On Sunday it was Mothers day. My Mummy had a good idea to go to Badbury Rings. She had been there when she was little and thought we would all enjoy it too. So Mummy, Daddy, my brother Olly and my Uncle Robin all went there in the morning. It was great fun running and climbing up and down the rings. The rings were built by Iron Age people to protect their village from attack from enemy armies over 2000 years ago. There was a lot to see. First I found a big lump of chalk, thousands of years ago the rings were made of chalk. Next I found some wool on the ground, we think a sheep must have been in a fight. Then I found a sharp white rock which I think is made of dead sea creatures like fossils. It was very windy at Badbury Rings, we had great fun flying our kite. By Owen |

Hi my name is Kimberley in Topaz class. Today i went swimming with my class. It was really fun because I was learning to swim. When i got in the pool I went to the side and then kicked my legs. In the middle I used a float to hold me up. My best bit was getting in the water because I didn't know what it felt like. |

Topaz class have had another busy week! In literacy we have been learning to write character descriptions. We have used adjectives, commas in lists, exclamation marks and question marks. Next week we will be learning to write similes and then writing a character description of the Gruffalo. In Science we have been thinking about how we can change materials. We made jelly and bread and answered the question 'How long does it take ice to melt?' We have been using the words solid and liquid and have written a conclusion. In maths this week we have been learning to add. Next week we will be subtracting by taking away from a set. On Wednesday 9 children from Topaz class played football for the year 1 or the year 2 teams. A video of the tournament is on the website. This week is cycle to school week and we start our new topic on 'Transport'. On Monday we can bring in bikes and scooter for the entry point. We will also be talking about what we already know about transport and what we want to find out. |

It has been an exciting week back at school for Topaz class. In maths we have been learning to order and partition numbers. During our science lessons we have been thinking about the properties of different materials. We carried out a fair test to find out what would be the best material to make an umbrella from. Our conclusions were so good Mrs Di-Pede came and had a look. We also had great fun learning about magnets and finding out what materials are magnetic and what happens when you put magnets together. We also worked with Miss Ackroyd on our story telling project and welcomed some new parent helpers. Friday was the busiest day of the week. In the morning we won the February 'Wake and Shake' challenge for the third time in a row, took part in 'Topaz has talent' and did some amazing art work with students from the upper school. Click on the link below if you would like to watch the video. Some children also came to football club after school and went to extra football at lunchtime. Next week some children in Key Stage One will be taking part in a football competition at Ferndown Middle School, spectators are welcome. We have our fingers crossed for the weather. In maths we will be learning to add and in literacy we will be starting to write a character description of the Gruffalo. In science we will be thinking about how we can change materials. We will be making jelly and rice crispy cakes as well as answering the question 'How long does it take ice to melt?'. What do you think? |
