Adverse Weather Advice

It is the policy of Ferndown First School to make every effort to remain open whenever possible.

The decision to close the school, either before or during the school day, will be made by the Headteacher in consultation, where possible, with the Chair of Governors.

Pupil, parent and staff safety remains paramount when making decisions.

Please avoid telephoning the school office for information about school closure. Parents will be informed, as detailed below.

School Closure Decision before the start of the day

1. The closure will be recorded on the Dorset County Council Website and School Website
2. Parents who have opted into the scheme will be alerted to the closure via ParentMail Text service

It is acknowledged that parents appreciate information as early as possible and we will endeavour to make decisions about closure no later than 7.45am. Parents should check the school website when it is clear that closure is possible.

School Closure Decision during the School Day

  • Closing school early will have to be considered in very extreme circumstances and parents will be notified by text message and asked to collect their children.
  • The school website and Facebook page will also be updated.
  • If we have decided that school must close, children must be collected by someone on their collection list. Alternatively, parents must advise us, by email, who will be collecting your child.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding, in what are quite rare circumstances.
