A super start to summer sport.

The first week back has provided our school with great successes in sporting situations. We had our KS2 tennis finals on Tuesday, followed by our last Danny Thomas Coaching Academy league game on Friday. Here is the key news from both events.

On Tuesday, Mrs Munday took the 4 tennis players to take part in the Dorset Finals at Ferndown Tennis Club. In the week before the holidays, our team of 4 were one of the teams selected to go towards the final. The team performed admirably well, with Mrs Munday commending them on their team spirit and competitiveness. At the end of the tournament, we finished 4th out of 6 teams, which the children should be incredibly proud of! Well done to Daisy, Olivia, Samuel and Joseph, and thanks to Mrs Munday for taking the team.

Ferndown First 2 – 2 St Ives
Ferndown all but sealed the league title in a tough, but very even two-two draw against St Ives school, to remain undefeated in the DTCA Year 4 league.

Kicking off at the later time of 3:45, St Ives made the most of early possession by taking the lead early on, after 4 minutes. Their centre midfielder darted out to the right hand channel before sending over a cross when Dylan unfortunately put past Charlie. The goal seemed to spark the hosts into life, with Ferndown maintaining enough of the possession in the final ten minutes of the first half. Great work out on the left from Blake managed to force the ball to fall invitingly to Tobie who couldn’t miss with 2 yards out. Tobie then got his second a few minutes later, a long ball from Henry from the back and Tobie raced onto it; alone against the keeper out on the right hand side of the pitch, Tobie perfectly weighted the ball to cross the line with the keeper stranded. Blake and Henry both threw their bodies on the line to prevent St Ives getting back into the game, and Charlie made 2 excellent saves to deny the away side equalising before Mr Wilcox blew the half time whistle.

The second half began with 2 changes, with Joe and Harry M switching for Dylan and Harry R. Mr Wilcox had given instructions to not chase the game too much and to play smart, and they did for the first half of the second period. Harry, Henry, Alfie and Blake all tackling to stop shots at the last minute. Tobie tried to get his hat-trick, dancing through the park but his shot was blocked at the last chance. The visiting keeper also made a great save towards the end of the game. However, after a string of corners, Ferndown conceded late with a few minutes to go. The final whistle went and a fair result with a very even 2 – 2 draw.

Squad: Charlie (GK), Henry, Harry R (Joe), Alfie, Dylan (Harry M), Tobie, Blake
