We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day yesterday!

We started the day with a special World Book Day assembly led by Mr Watts. After that, we had our Teacher Swap story time. The children didn’t know which teacher would arrive in their classroom to read a story! It was a great surprise and the children listened brilliantly to the stories.

Year 1 and Year 2 were lucky enough to visit Ferndown Library where they spent time sharing books and heard a story read by library staff. Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped them walk over.

Later on in the day, the children shared a favourite story which many had brought in from home. The children designed and made wrapping paper with clues about the book. They then shared it with a reading buddy from another class who tried to guess what the book was using the clues, before unwrapping it and sharing it together. It was great fun!

As well as this, the children thought about the book corners in our classrooms. They spent some time discussing what makes a fantastic book corner before designing one. There was lots of interesting ideas about how to inspire others to read and what kinds of books should be available. Mrs Errington, our English leader, hopes to use some of these ideas in the future to make our reading areas even better in school.

The day ended with a special World Book Day sticker for all children and of course the £1 token which children can exchange for a special £1 book in participating book stores.

What a fantastic day! We are already looking forward to next year!
