In Year 3, we enjoyed a trip to the Museum of East Dorset. The children loved taking part in a hands-on, realistic archaeological dig. They went down through the layers and unearthed interesting artefacts. The children made deductions about what their finds tell us about the past.
The children also loved listening to the story of the ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. From the book, they learnt about everyday life in the Stone Age, how they made clothes and weapons, what they ate, and how they decorated caves. The children then experimented with oil pastels and charcoal to design and create their very own Stone Age cave drawing to take home.
The children enjoyed creating their own Stone Age necklace and were interested to learn that jewellery was used for status and identity. It was an excellent day, and the children represented the school brilliantly.
