This week in Reception we read the story Elmer by David McKee. Elmer wanted to make all the other elephants so we have been thinking about how we can help our friends feel happy too.

To support our cutting skills we have all collaged a picture of Elmer by using scissors to cut out squares of colourful paper and then stick them down.

In English we have been listening for initial sounds in words and then wrote them down as labels. For example we have listened for the sound /s/ in sun and then written it down to label the picture of the sun.

In phonics our sounds this week were i, n, m, d.

In maths we have been practising the skill of subitising – this is when we recognise how many objects are in a set without having to count them. For example, recognising how many dots are on a dice.

What a busy week we have had!
