Yesterday we were joined by Eric from Kings Park Care Home, accompanied by their Home Services Advisor, Rebekah, in a special assembly. They came to tell us all about Eric’s Epic Charity Walk. Eric is 91 years old and has set himself the challenge of walking 100 miles, in order to raise money for two charities which were dear to his late wife’s heart; Julia’s House and Lewis Manning Hospice. Kings Park Care Home contacted us, to ask if we would like to support Eric in completing his ‘Epic Walk’ and, of course, we said yes!
The last time Eric was in a school assembly of any kind was apparently 1948 and he was excited to see how things had changed since he was last in a school! Winning the children over, Eric had everyone chanting his motto for the walk: ‘Stop talking, start walking!’ much to his delight. Following the assembly, Eric inspected the walking track outside ready for the children’s involvement next week, before stopping off to see some of the children in their classrooms, checking that they had remembered his motto!
On the morning of Tuesday 11th July, the children will join Eric to walk either half a mile or one mile to support the challenge. We will be using our Daily Mile Track which is located around the edge of our Games Enclosure. Half a mile is 5 laps of the track and  one mile is 10 laps of the track. Eric will join the children for some of the walking (or skipping, marching or dancing!) and will be cheering them on as they complete their walking. The children’s laps will all count towards the total distance. If you would like to donate £1 to support Eric and the children, and of course Julia’s House and Lewis Manning Hospice, please send your child in with with £1 on the day.
